Yes, I was sold on EV future.🔋
What’s the best birthday gift 🥳 a tech nerd can give to himself? I sold my Mazda CX-5 and bought a Tesla Model 3 in April 2023. Six months in and 10,000+ miles later, my Tesla Model 3 is still the best birthday gift I’ve ever given myself!
Driving my Tesla Model 3 has been a blast! I still can’t believe I’ve been gas station-free for 6 months and I get to charge my car for free at the office. It’s like living in the future! 🚗💨
The Tesla Model 3 is one of the most popular electric vehicles on the market, and for good reason. It’s affordable, has a long-range, and is packed with features. But what are the real-world benefits of driving a Model 3? Here are five benefits of driving a Tesla Model 3 with 10k miles in 6 months:
1. Low Operating Cost 💸
One of the biggest advantages of electric vehicles is their low operating costs. You don’t have to pay for gas, and maintenance is minimal. In fact, Tesla owners report spending very little on maintenance, even after driving their cars for tens of thousands of miles.
Maintenance:
In my last 6 months with 10k miles, I haven’t had any issues of maintenance. I haven’t taken my car for any oil changes or any regular maintenance. I haven’t even visited the Tesla service center yet.
The only issue:
The only issue I have had so far is with the mobile connector. The mobile connector charger stopped working and I haven’t been able to charge my car at the office for free :). I am glad the issue is with the charger and not the car.
I have a service request in place and the service team is going to come to my home and look into it. So win in the end no service center visit.
UPDATE (12/11/23): The Tesla service team was able to remotely figure out the issue and they delivered new charger. They scheduled at home service and the mobile charger was replaced for free of charge.
2. Fuel Cost Saving⛽️
So did I really save any money compared to gas powered cars? Lets dive into how much I saved after driving 10k miles on this car.
Tesla makes it super easy in it’s app to see how and where I have been charging the car. Here is a snapshot from my personal charging sessions.
Charging cost is definitely going to differ for everyone. For me most of the savings came from..
- Charging the car at home during off-peak hours
- Charging at the office for free whenever possible
- If I can trust the stats here I was able to save almost $800 or more compared to my old car
I can confidently conclude that I saved some money.
3. Convenience 😌
Owning a Tesla has been a seamless experience for me, from placing the order to picking up the car to driving it. I’ve heard complaints online from other owners, but I guess I’m fortunate so far.
Here are some of the ways that Teslas make driving more convenient which I have been enjoying:
Charging at home: It’s been very easy to juice up the car at night. The app makes it easy to schedule charging automatically during off-peak hours. My car will be fully charged every morning and ready for the day.
Over-the-air software updates: The car receives over-the-air software updates. This means that you don’t have to take your car to a dealership to get new features or bug fixes.
Drive on Autopilot: Tesla Model 3s are packed with advanced technology features, including a self-driving system, a large touchscreen display, and a variety of other features that make them more convenient and enjoyable to drive.
Remote preconditioning: You can use the Tesla app to preheat or precool your car’s cabin remotely. This is great for cold winter mornings or hot summer days.
Keyless entry and start: Tesla Model 3s use keyless entry and start. This means that you don’t have to carry a key with you. You can simply unlock your car and start it by using the Tesla app or your phone.
Sentry Mode: Sentry Mode monitors your car’s surroundings for suspicious activity while it’s parked. If it detects something, it will start recording video and send you an alert.
Overall, Tesla Model 3s are very convenient to drive. They have a variety of features that make them easier to park, charge, and use.

Overall, the Tesla app is a valuable tool for Tesla owners. It makes it easy to manage your car remotely, view its status, and get help when you need it.
